Mitchell was one of the best available players on the board. Poles seems committed to overhauling the offensive line, so taking another a tackle would not be a surprise.
Offensive tackles are always excellent value picks because they can always be moved inside to guard.
According to NFL.com, Mitchell projects to be a starter at tackle in the NFL. He has the size the Bears are looking for at 6’6” and 307 pounds.
He played in the Sun Belt but according to the Draft Network, that should not be a problem.
"Although Mitchell plays at a smaller school, ULL has competed at a high level and even spent time in the Top 25. During his time at ULL, Mitchell was able to get experience playing good competition, competing against Power 5 programs like Texas and Iowa State—Mitchell played well in both games. Mitchell is an athletic tackle that can get great depth on his pass set to beat defenders to the point. Mitchell also has good lateral movement and can mirror pass rushers when they attempt counter moves and change direction."
Although, Mitchell did not have the best practice week at the Senior Bowl.
Sure, part of this clip is result of slippage by the RT but it’s also good illustration of how easily Jermaine Johnson’s hand strike effects people. Reps like this one from @seniorbowl are big reason why @ii_jermaine has helped himself as much as any player in pre-draft process. pic.twitter.com/ghCamoietW

He will need to get stronger but his tape shows he can come in and be a swing tackle from day one and eventually be a starter for the Bears.
One of the most impressive feats from any OL in this class is when Max Mitchell was switching back and forth between RT & LT in the middle of drives vs Texas when UT was in hunt mode up by 20+ and was very effective at both.

Will go day 2 as a swing tackle I’d bet. Good player.

At 6’2” and 200 pounds, Doubs is another bigger receiver for Fields to connect with along with a receiver that fits Luke Getsy’s scheme.
Doubs caught 225 career passes for 3322 career yards and 27 touchdowns in four seasons at Nevada.
He consistently improved each season. He played well against big time opponents.
He went off for nine catches, 127 yards and two touchdowns against an 11-win San Diego State. Against Power-5 conference Kansas State, Doubs caught seven passes for over a 100 yards.
The problem is he is not the greatest route runner and NFL.com projects he will be just a back-up and special teams player.
He is a deep threat wide receiver according to Draft Network. Pro Football Network is much higher on Doubs.
He makes sense for the Chicago Bears as they need more receivers who can get downfield. Doubs has speed that the Bears need.
Top 5 Max Speeds from Senior Bowl National Practice per @ZebraTechnology:
— Jim Nagy (@JimNagy_SB) February 1, 2022
*Fayetteville State CB Josh Williams - 21.75 mph
*Nevada WR Romeo Doubs - 21.25 mph
*Arizona St RB Rachaad White - 21.15 mph
* Ole Miss WR Braylon Sanders - 20.84 mph
* NDSU WR Christian Watson - 20.71 mph
With an extra pick in the third, it is worth rolling the dice on a player who has the potential to be a big-time playmaker with the right coaching.
The Chicago Bears make another trade to get more picks.
Another chance presented itself in the mock simulation to pick up a few more picks. The Raiders gave up a fourth and two fifth-round picks to trade up.
The Bears have so many roster needs that getting quantity out of the draft is just as important as quality. This trade accomplishes that goal.
