player. 2117. Pick Analysis. South Alabama. Jalen Tolbert. Scouting Report. Wide Receiver. 61

The Chicago Bears need to get Fields more weapons. Fields likes to push the ball down the field and that is one reason Tolbert was the pick here when the Bears came back on the clock towards the end of the second round.

Pro Football Focus has Tolbert among the 10 best wide receivers prospects. One reason for that is Tolbert finished fifth in college football with 16 deep ball catches. He was sixth in FBS in receiving yards with 1474. He was very productive against single coverage.

He had a stellar career at South Alabama. He holds the school record for career catches and yards with178 receptions for 3140 yards. He also has 22 career touchdowns.

Tolbert has good size as he stands 6’1″ with a 36-inch vertical leap to go along with a 4.49 40-yard dash time at the NFL Combine.

NFL.com projects he will be a starter in the NFL.

"Silky smooth athlete who has morphed into a monster over the last two seasons. Tolbert is a high-character prospect with skill elements that are dripping with NFL potential. He gave work to everyone he faced, including SEC cover corners at Tennessee. His three-sport background offers unique perspective to pull from at his position, and his route-running gives him a leg up in camp battles early on. His traits, talent and production should push him up the board, and dialing up the competitive spirit could turn him into a top-flight WR2."

Against Tennessee, Tolbert caught seven passes for 143 yards with a 63-yard gain and a touchdown. Having a big game against an SEC opponent shows he can play with the best competition and thrive.

While he played most of his games against Sun Belt competition, he shined against the best that the conference had to offer. He torched Coastal Carolina for 10 catches, 191 yards, and a touchdown. He had seven catches for 108 yards against Appalachian State.

He also impressed during the Senior Bowl practices.

Plus, he has a good catch radius so he would be the ideal replacement for Allen Robinson.
