The Chicago Bears would get a bargain if they signed free agent tight end Jesse James

The tight end position is a weird one for the Bears. They have Cole Kmet coming into his third year and not having performed as well as they would have liked as a second-round pick. The team also re-signed exclusive rights free agent Jesper Horsted, who must get more playing time.

But, beyond those guys, the room is pretty bare. Last year, the Bears brought in Jesse James during training camp and he immediately bonded with Fields. The connection was evident, and James proved he could be counted on when given the opportunity.

Fields and James showed out mostly in the preseason and in camp, but that’s also because the Bears hardly played the 7-year veteran.

Without having to spend any draft capital or worry about who will be the team’s second or third tight end, re-signing James would give the Bears the needed depth at the position. The former fifth-round pick out of Penn State is just 27 years old and has plenty of football in front of him. This is absolutely a worthy signing the Bears could make as they continue to fill out their roster.
