5 bold trades shake up this Chicago Bears 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
In the fourth round, the Bears find someone to pair in the back field with Khalil Herbert — and they may have found the ideal value in BYU running back Tyler Allgeier. Very similar to Montgomery, Allgeier is a well-balanced and patient running back who sees the field really well.
Allgeier is 5-foot-11, weighing 224 pounds and giving the Bears a bigger back who can be used in short yardage and goal line situations, but is extremely underrated between the twenties.
Allgeier has a great feel for a zone scheme. He’s also a fantastic pass blocker when called upon. He does a lot of the little things that are going to help earn additional yardage and minimize negative plays.
Over the past two seasons, Allgeier has been the bell cow for BYU, racking up over 2,700 yards and 36 rushing touchdowns in that span. He picks up chunk yardage with ease, averaging a whopping 6.41 yards per carry over his last two seasons.
Don’t let the 4.6 speed fool you. He doesn’t need to be fast in order to be efficient. Allgeier would compliment Herbert well, and the Bears wouldn’t have to feel too bad about parting with Montgomery.
