5 bold trades shake up this Chicago Bears 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
With their next pick just a little later in the third round, the Bears once again stay on offense and, specifically, up front. Chicago selects Arizona State tackle Kellen Diesch, finally giving them the competition and depth on the offensive line that fans have long-desired.
Diesch is an interesting prospect, because if you look at his frame, you’d think he is far too light — and in a way, you’d be right. Diesch stands a towering 6-foot-7 and only weighs 301 pounds — less than the aforementioned Parham.
Now, Diesch ran a 4.89 at the Combine and paired that with a 32.5-inch vertical. If you want an athletic tackle, that’s what you’re getting in Diesch. While he does have room to add some weight, Diesch’s ability to move extremely well is also valuable. He has great lateral movement in pass sets, which is crucial in today’s NFL when he’ll be going against the quickest pass rushers he’s ever faced.
Diesch would come in and compete with Larry Borom for that second starting tackle position, and the competition would be the absolute best thing for both of these guys. No matter what, the Bears know that they’ll have a competent backup who could step in on a moment’s notice.
