5 bold trades shake up this Chicago Bears 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
The safety position will look a lot different after this draft. Trading Jackson, drafting cross and now also drafting Sterling Weatherford sees the Bears completely renovate the position. Chicago also recently signed former Titans safety Dane Cruikshank, who will compete with these guys for a starting position.
In Weatherford, the Bears get a huge defensive back that stands 6-foot-4, weighing 215 pounds. The physical profile is certainly there, as Weatherford is a guy who looks to make the tackle with authority.
At the pro level, Weatherford projects best in a zone scheme as he consistently finds the football. He has above-average ball skills and definitely isn’t unfamiliar with making big plays.
Weatherford might not start immediately, but he has the physical profile to become a starter in this league and it couldn’t take too long before we see him out there with the defense. To begin with, he’ll be a special teams ace, and that’s how he’ll make his name known.
