The Chicago Bears could trade Nick Foles to the Carolina Panthers

The quarterback carousel has been tough to keep up with this offseason, as we’ve seen so many guys moved around. The Carolina Panthers were one team to watch, too, before guys like Russell Wilson, Deshaun Watson and Aaron Rodgers made their moves.

The Panthers, though, appear to be selective. They did not want anything to do with Baker Mayfield, now that the Browns are looking to trade the former first overall pick. Instead, they still have Sam Darnold under contract and may be a candidate to draft a rookie quarterback this year. However, with this year’s class being deemed weaker than other recent classes, maybe they choose to go with two veterans and wait until next year.

In this trade, the Panthers get Foles for the price of a conditional sixth-round pick. It’s likely that Darnold would start for Carolina going into this year, barring any other move like bringing back Cam Newton.

If Foles does not end up starting a minimum of six games, this pick becomes a seventh rounder instead. That seventh-round selection would come at pick number 243. However, if it ends up being Darnold and Foles, then it’s tough to imagine Matt Rhule not turning it over to Foles at some point during the year. Darnold clearly has not met expectations, and the Panthers could be better served turning to a veteran like Foles for much of the season — that is, until they find their franchise guy in the 2023 NFL Draft.
