As NFL free agency rages on, the Chicago Bears keep on keeping on with their careful and cautious approach.

Ryan Poles hasn’t gone out and made a blockbuster move to bring anybody to Chicago, but actually began the madness with quite the opposite, dealing Khalil Mack to the Los Angeles Chargers.

After signing a handful of second wave, mid-tier types, Poles likely looks to do most of his damage this offseason in the 2022 NFL Draft. The Bears have six picks in the draft, but don’t count on it staying that way.

While the previous regime, under Ryan Pace, traded up quite often, look for Poles and the Bears to trade back and acquire more picks. Poles did say, after all, that he’s always looking at ways to acquire additional draft capital.

The Chicago Bears have a variety of options to gain extra capital in the 2022 NFL Draft.

Chicago has two second-round picks to work with now, after the Mack trade. Those picks come at no. 39 and no. 48 overall. Obviously, the earlier pick is far more valuable and could net the Bears a good haul. But, there could also be a very, very good player available there who might have fallen out of the first round.

It’s a delicate situation, to say the least. But, let’s not even begin to start doubting Poles. He’s demonstrated that he is in this for the long haul, and that the Bears are going to be competitive and far more aggressive with 2023 in mind.

If the Bears wanted to trade back in this year’s draft, the options are endless.

Using the mock draft simulator from Pro Football Focus, these trades came together very well for the Bears.
