The Chicago Bears could sign free agent guard Will Hernandez

Finally, we look at the offensive line — another soft spot for the Bears right now. Having signed Lucas Patrick as their starting center, though, the Bears have at least three spots filled amongst their starting five. Cody Whitehair and Teven Jenkins are, of course, the other two.

Back in 2018 when the Bears drafted James Daniels out of Iowa, another potential target for them was Will Hernandez out of UTEP. The Giants ended up getting Hernandez at no. 37 overall, and he disappointed, to say the least.

If you have a hard time holding onto a starting position with the New York Giants’ offensive line over the past few seasons, that’s a red flag. Hernandez did exactly that in 2020, but once again became a starter for New York last season.

Hernandez is still only 26 years old, though, and deserves another shot. Sometimes, being a former high draft pick and getting humbled by not getting re-signed, and then waiting a while for your next gig, can help motivate a player.

Hernandez should get a look, even if it’s to come in and compete. He may not win the starting job, but as a backup, he would be a valuable player for Chicago.
