Chicago Bears get five top-100 players in this 2022 mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
Alabama has a history in producing some of the league’s best route runners, and John Metchie III is no exception. The Bears get an absolute stud here in the third round, as Metchie might be the best route runner in his class.
Now, we heard that a few years back when the Bears drafted Riley Ridley. So, understandably, there might be some PTSD with that phrase. But, Metchie is a different breed. He comes with outstanding speed and an ability to get up the field in a hurry after the catch.
Unfortunately for Metchie, he suffered a torn ACL last year which is why his draft stock will take a bit of a hit. He does expect to be cleared by June, though, which makes this a worthy selection.
Before going out with an injury at the very end of the season, Metchie enjoyed a career year at Alabama, hauling in 96 passes for 1,142 yards and eight scores. This would be a guy the Bears could plug into the slot right away, maybe shifting in and out with Byron Pringle.
Metchie would give Fields an option that is seemingly always open, and that’s a great weapon to have for a young quarterback. As the Bears’ fourth pick in the draft, Metchie might be the biggest value.
