5 free agent starters the Chicago Bears can still sign

The Chicago Bears could sign free agent safety Tyrann Mathieu
One of the biggest names remaining in free agency is Kansas City Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu. There have been plenty of whispers over the first week of the free agency period, but Mathieu remains unsigned.
The Bears’ secondary is far from complete, at the moment. It still looks similar to how it did last year, in fact. The only signing the Bears have made in that group is actually bringing back one of their own in DeAndre Houston-Carson as a special teams ace and valuable reserve.
Mathieu would come in and start next to Eddie Jackson, both of whom would be especially efficient in a zone scheme where they’re allowed a bit more freedom. Mathieu is a known playmaker and, hopefully, he would help Jackson return to form.
Mathieu is 29 years old, but will be 30 in May. That would go against the strategy Poles has used thus far, as he hasn’t signed anyone over that age just yet. But, with Mathieu still playing great football, he’d have a few years left to offer any team at this point.
With the Bears’ new-found cap space since the Khalil Mack trade, a bigger contract wouldn’t be the worst thing. They’d have the space to sign Mathieu, who would instantly make this defense a whole lot better.
