The Chicago Bears must sign guard Brandon Scherff

This is the one move that might not fit the mold of what Poles is wanting to do. Brandon Scherff is 30 years old, but has made three straight Pro Bowls, and was an All Pro for one of those years.

If Poles is truly thinking he would go all-in next year, with that amount of cap space and draft capital, then Scherff could still be playing at a high level and would be along for the ride.

The Bears need a huge lift up front, and depending on what they do with Cody Whitehair, they will need a sure fire leader. Scherff is the perfect type of guard to play in this system under Luke Getsy, too.

This is a guy who has a nasty edge to him and excels in a zone scheme. Scherff might be 30 years old, but the Bears should absolutely try and lure him to Chicago. He could be the one major veteran out of this younger offensive line and help lead this group to their potential.

The only red flag with Scherff is the fact that he’s missed 22 games since 2018. He’s missed a few games each season due to injury. Maybe that comes into play with contract negotiations, but he’ll still be pricy — and if healthy, he’s worth it.
