The Chicago Bears should spend big on free agent D.J. Chark

Look, the Bears’ options on the wide receiver front have dried up a bit. Unless they can somehow land Amari Cooper or Jarvis Landry, the current impending free agent pool is far less talented than it was just a few days ago.

One of the best-available guys next week is going to be Jacksonville Jaguars free agent D.J. Chark. Having spent his entire four-year career in Jacksonville, Chark has yet to experience good quarterback play. Funny enough, the Bears have been searching for just that, and look to have it on the way with second-year pro Justin Fields.

What we know about Fields is that he loves to throw deep, and Chark is excellent in that realm. However, Chark is also pretty underrated when it comes to his route running. He’s improved since coming out of LSU as mainly a speed guy. Now, Matt Eberflus is sure to love his speed, but Chark’s ability to run different routes has expanded big time since his rookie year.

Chark made a Pro Bowl in 2019 after posting 1,008 yards and eight touchdowns. Last year, he missed 12 games due to injury.

This would be a little funny seeing the Bears sign another former Pro Bowl wideout from Jacksonville, also coming off injury. But, Chark is certainly worth spending on and could compliment Darnell Mooney very well.
