8 teams former Chicago Bears QB Mitchell Trubisky could sign with
By Todd Welter
The former Chicago Bears quarterback could find a really interesting job in 2022.
The New York Giants make the most sense for Trubisky. Daboll is now the head coach. Incumbent starter Daniel Jones has not exactly set the world on fire.
The Giants quarterback situation was so bad last season that former Chicago Bears quarterback Mike Glennon started games.
Trubisky would be able to come into New York and run Daboll’s system. As he did in 2017, he would do a better job playing quarterback than Glennon.
The Washington Commanders are looking for an upgrade over Taylor Heinicke. If Washington cannot pull off a trade for Russell Wilson, there is a belief the Commanders will shift to Trubisky.
The belief is that Washington likes that Trubisky still has the highest ceiling among the free-agent quarterbacks.
Charles Leno Jr. used to protect Trubisky’s blindside and there is thinking they could reunite in Washington.
Ben Roethlisberger has retired. There is a belief one Ohio native should replace another Ohio native.
In Pittsburgh, he would be asked to manage a game more instead of trying to make big plays like Matt Nagy asked him to do. Plus, Pittsburgh likes to run the ball, and when Big Ben could move, get the quarterback out of the pocket to make big throws. That is where Mitch excels.
He appears to be the Steelers fans’ preferred choice to be the next quarterback.
The Denver Broncos are desperately trying to trade for Aaron Rodgers. Trubisky might be their fallback if Rodgers stays in Green Bay or the Packers choose a different trade partner.
The Broncos Plan B would be to draft a young quarterback like Liberty’s Malik Willis and have Trubisky serve as a bridge quarterback.
Willis may take a season or two before he is fully ready to be the starter. Trubisky would also get the chance to work in Nathaniel Hackett’s quarterback-friendly offense.
