Finally, the Bears’ last pick in the draft is back on defense when they select Utah linebacker Nephi Sewell.
A little undersized at 5-foot-11 1/2, Sewell weighs in around 226 pounds and gives the Bears someone they could potentially play at either linebacker or maybe even a hybrid role depending up on the package.
Sewell presents some adequate characteristics for a linebacker, and his top traits have much to do with having quick feet. His 40-yard dash time was fine (4.67 seconds) and ranked 17th among linebackers.
But, he really shined during his 3-cone drill (7.01 seconds and 2nd among linebackers) and 20-yard shuttle (4.33 seconds and 3rd among linebackers).
Sewell is a former safety, so there’s potential for the Bears to try him at multiple positions. Although he is undersized, Sewell is a downhill player and puts in the effort. If anything, he could become a special teams ace with potential to play starting reps on defense, depending on where the Bears use him.
