The Chicago Blackhawks would still fetch a lot for Patrick Kane this season.

Patrick Kane has the rest of this season and all of next season on his contract. That makes him slightly more than a rental for a team like the Colorado Avalanche. If they landed Kane in a trade this year, they would have a back-to-back on their minds for sure.

All of these trades are assuming that they do what needs to be done in order to make it work for the salary cap. That could be other trades, cuts, or retention of salary but when there is a will there is a way.

Almost any trade involving Kane would require a first-round pick. That means that it would have to be a 2023 first because of the fact that Colorado already traded away their 2022 pick. That is a good thing anyway because that draft is so much deeper and Colorado will have a late-round pick.

The third-round pick is just extra because it is always good to add picks. Bowen Byram is a really good young player that could be a number one defenseman if he stays healthy. Chicago should have taken him third overall in 2019 instead of Kirby Dach but this is a way to make it right. Colorado would miss him in the future but now is more important to a team like that.
