The first corner the Bears should be eyeing if they look to trade into the first round has the one thing this secondary has been missing since the departure of Adrian Amos. Washington standout cornerback Trent McDuffie is an ultra-competitive type. The multi-year starter is as aggressive as they come.
McDuffie may not have the most ideal size at under six feet, but he makes up for that with just how well he sticks with his man in both zone and man coverage. He’s got twitchy athleticism which allows him to mirror his man well, even on some of the more intricate routes.
Last season, McDuffie only allowed 16 receptions all year long. For those keeping track at home, that’s an average of 1.5 catches allowed per game. McDuffie doesn’t give up much. He’s a Day 1 starter in any scheme, but his aggression and physicality are what’s most attractive above all else.
The Bears have been missing a defensive back who isn’t afraid to break the mold, come up in run support and make a tough stop. That’s what McDuffie will do for the Bears, in addition to being a true shutdown corner.
