Justin Fields gets amped for this 2022 Chicago Bears mock draft
By Ryan Heckman
With their last pick in the draft, the Bears again go defense. This time, they opt for a fairly versatile defensive back in former Georgia Southern and Louisville safety Kenderick Duncan.
Because the Bears’ depth is so depleted in their secondary, at both cornerback and safety, this is a solid pickup. Duncan has played free safety, slot corner and outside corner in the past.
His size gives him an advantage if the Bears wanted to try him in the slot or even potentially at strong safety, should he work his way into a starting conversation. Duncan stands a towering 6-foot-3 and weighs in at 225 pounds. He’s a tank of a defensive back.
The best trait Duncan possesses is speed and quickness for his size. He’s able to go sideline to sideline in a hurry, despite being such a big guy. Duncan is also a physical player, being able to play downhill and make the tackle in run support.
Despite him being willing to make contact, Duncan does need to improve his tackling technique. Too many whiffs show up on his tape, so that’s a spot where Eberflus and Alan Williams could help tidy up.
