Next, the Bears make one last trade to add an additional draft pick for Poles to work with. Fortunately, even though the Bears traded pretty far back, they were able to find another offensive playmaker out of Memphis in Calvin Austin.

One of the things Eberflus and Poles want to see Fields get better at is getting the ball out quicker. For this reason, adding a player like Austin is going to help. Austin spent much of his time at Memphis doing his damage after a short catch. Whether it’s a short dump-off, a slant, screen or comeback, Austin is very good at making the catch and getting upfield.

Last season, Austin caught 74 passes for 1,149 yards and eight touchdowns. He was force-fed the football at times, because Memphis knew just how electric he could be.

Austin stands just 5-foot-7 and weighs 173 pounds, so he’s a strong, compact player who isn’t afraid of contact. He’d give the Bears a very good option to gain yards after contact and after the catch.
