3 free agent cornerbacks connected to new Chicago Bears leadership

The Chicago Bears could pursue free agent Xavier Rhodes
If you’re one for taking risks, then a former Matt Eberflus project might be the guy you’d like the Bears to sign. Xavier Rhodes went from being one of the best cornerbacks in the league back with the Minnesota Vikings, to people questioning whether or not he belongs on the field anymore.
When he arrived in Indianapolis, Eberflus and Alan Williams went to work — and boy, did they do a masterful job.
Rhodes went on to play in, and start, all 16 games in 2020 while having a much better season than anyone thought he could. He finished with a pair of interceptions and also 12 passes defensed. That comeback year for Rhodes saw him allow just 51.9 percent completion to opposing quarterbacks, too.
Rhodes is now 31 years old, and cannot be counted on as a long-term solution. However, maybe as a one-year rental, he would suffice — possibly two. If the Bears signed Rhodes to a fairly affordable contract, they couldn’t go wrong. Eberflus and Williams obviously believe in him and were a big part of his career turnaround.
