The Chicago Bears could pursue free agent Charvarius Ward

One of the favorite free agent targets amongst many Bears fans is Kansas City Chiefs cornerback Charvarius Ward. Obviously, Poles comes from Kansas City and was part of the crew who found Ward as an undrafted free agent — of course after he was initially cut by the Dallas Cowboys.

The former Middle Tennessee State defensive back is just 25 years old and now has three straight years as a starter under his belt. The Chiefs defense, as a whole, has had its fair share of struggles here and there over the past couple of seasons. But, Ward’s presence has been fairly constant.

In 2021, Ward allowed an opposing quarterback rating of just 79.4 and a completion percentage of 51.3 percent. He picked off two passes last year, as well as coming up with 10 passes defensed.

Ward will likely fall into that mid-to-high tier area in terms of a contract, and that’s exactly where the Bears should be looking. Maybe they don’t want to spend maximum money, but the Bears absolutely need a legitimate starter opposite Johnson, and Ward would give them just that.
