The Chicago Cubs are giving up a lot in this hypothetical trade scenario.

Juan Soto is such a good player that no trade is going to look like a good trade for the Nationals. These trades might even be starting points for a player like him. The only way these could be somewhat accurate is if it becomes known that he is for sure not resigning in Washington and wants to be traded immediately.

If that does happen, Brailyn Marquez, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Codi Heuer, and Reginald Preciado could be a good starting point. Each of them provides something completely different for whichever team they end up serving in their careers.

Heuer was with Madrigal in the deal that send Kimbrel to the White Sox. He is a very talented reliever that should be very effective for a long time. He has the stuff to be a closer in the big leagues.

Brailyn Marquez is the team’s top pitching prospect and should be a good arm in the MLB. He was signed by the team as a prospect in 2015. Now, at 23 years old, he should be ready to start making an impact at the MLB level.

The Cubs landed Crow-Armstrong and Preciado in big trades made within the last few years. Pete Crow-Armstrong came from the New York Mets in the Javy Baez deal and Preciado came in the Yu Darvish trade. Both of them have the Cubs system looking much better than it was a few years ago.

Again, all of this could end with Soto signing with the Nationals long-term when the lockout ends. It is just meant to be fun thinking about what the Cubs might have to give up in order to land a player like that. It is clear that we need baseball back ASAP.
