The Chicago Blackhawks saw Stan Bowman leave town early in the season. Since then, Kyle Davidson was named to be the interim general manager while the Hawks conduct a search for the next man in charge.

Later in the process, the Blackhawks made some announcements regarding the search. It became known that Marian Hossa, Patrick Sharp, and Ed Olczyck would be additional advisers for the search and whoever was hired would report directly to Danny Wirtz.

On Thursday, the Blackhawks announced that they have finished the interview portion of the hiring process which is a huge step. That means that they are down to a small list of people that will get the job.

The Blackhawks announced every person that they interviewed as they interviewed which is an interesting strategy but we know who is being considered now that the search is over. It will be one of Kyle Davidson, Eric Tulsky, Scott Mellanby, Peter Chiarelli, Mathieu Darche, or Jeff Greenberg.

The Chicago Blackhawks are ready to hire a new General Manager soon.

That list of candidates has a lot of different styles involved there. The most intriguing has to be Jeff Greenberg who doesn’t even come from the hockey community. He currently serves in a front-office role with the Chicago Cubs.

If the guy from baseball isn’t hired, it will be one of those five hockey people which could go either way. At this point, you would have to think that Kyle Davidson has the be the leader in the race right now because of the fact that he is already there.

The Hawks have Davidson in the interim role with the ability to run the team as he wishes for now. He hasn’t done much to mess it up right now so he may deserve the chance. It is going to be a while before they can make up for some Stan Bowman losses but Davidson deserves the chance.

We don’t know when the Hawks are going to make their official announcement but it should come soon. The trade deadline is coming up so it would be nice to have an announcement well before that. You want the person who gets the long-term vision to be the one making decisions here.

This was good news to come out of Chicago’s little break that they had here. They haven’t played since Sunday and will return on Friday against the New Jersey Devils at the United Center. This team has some work to do before the start of 2021-22 and this is a start.
