Darious Williams

The Chicago Bears will need to address their secondary this offseason and Los Angeles Rams cornerback Darious Williams.

Last offseason, the Chicago Bears were forced to cut veteran cornerback Kyle Fuller after the team was pressed for salary cap space and opted to retain veteran tight end Jimmy Graham and veteran defensive end Robert Quinn instead of keeping Fuller.

With the release of Fuller, the Bears elevated second-year cornerback Jaylon Johnson to being the primary cornerback of the defense. On the opposite side of Johnson, the initial plan that the Bears had was veteran cornerback Desmond Trufant. Unfortunately, Trufant experienced some family issues during training camp and the Bears released the veteran prior to the start of the season.

The Bears did not have a concrete plan for the cornerback starting on the opposite side of Johnson during the 2021 season but Kindle Vildor received the first opportunity. Vildor struggled in that position for the Bears and the position ultimately became a revolving door for the team.  Rookie Thomas Graham Jr showed flashed of being competent as the team’s second cornerback towards the end of the season but it’s possible that the Bears will want to bring in a veteran at that spot this offseason.

That veteran could be Los Angeles Rams cornerback Darious Williams. Williams shined for the Rams during the 2020 season as he had 4 interceptions and 14 pass deflects but was unable to build upon that success in 2021. At the very least, Williams could be a veteran that the Bears bring in to compete with Graham with the loser ultimately serving as the team’s nickleback.
