Odell Beckham Jr

Odell Backham Jr’s redemption story took a tragic turn in the Super Bowl this past Sunday as the veteran wide receiver suffered a torn ACL injury.

The 2021 NFL season was a roller coaster ride for veteran wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. Beckham began the season with the Cleveland Browns but quickly fell out of favor with quarterback Baker Mayfield. Given the rift between Mayfield and Beckham. the Browns opted to release the veteran wide receiver mid-season as they believed he was to blame for the team’s struggling offense this season.

Beckham had no shortage of suitors when he was released by the Browns as he was pursued by the likes of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Los Angeles Rams, and Green Bay Packers. Ultimately, Beckham opted to sign with the Rams and had an immediate impact. In 8 games with the Rams during the 2021 season, Beckham compiled 305 receiving yards and 5 touchdowns.

Beckham thrived in the playoffs for the Rams as well as he had a total of 316 postseason receiving yards and 2 touchdowns. In the Super Bowl, Beckham was off to an impressive start as he had 52 receiving yards and 1 touchdown in the first half. Unfortunately, Beckham suffered a torn ACL injury in the first half of the Super Bowl and was unable to finish the game.

Beckham was well on his way to becoming one of the top free agent wide receiver targets before the injury. After the injury, there is no question that Beckham’s contract projections have taken a hit. The Bears, at the very least, should have a conversation with Beckham’s representatives as when healthy, he is the exact type of wide receiver that needs to be paired with quarterback Justin Fields.
