2021 comparison of Chicago Bears Justin Fields and Trevor Lawrence
The Chicago Bears were not believed to be in the market for the two top quarterback prospects of the 2021 NFL Draft. Prior to the NFL Draft, most draft experts had Trevor Lawrence as the the top quarterback prospect and Justin Fields was believed to be the second best quarterback prospect.
Given the success that Lawrence had at the University of Clemson, it was no surprise that he was not only the top quarterback prospect in the 2021 NFL Draft but the top prospect overall. In three seasons as the starting quarterback of the Clemson Tigers, Lawrence compiled 10,098 passing yards and 90 touchdown passes with a completion percentage of 66.6 percent. Lawrence also proved to be a threat on the ground as he compiled 943 rushing yards and 18 rushing touchdowns during his three-year run as the starting quarterback for the Tigers.
Meanwhile, Fields was equally as dominant with the Ohio State Buckeyes. Fields began his collegiate career as a freshman with the University of Georgia but did not fully establish himself as a starter until he transferred to the Ohio State University. In his two seasons as the starting quarterback of the Buckeyes, Fields passed for a total of 5,371 yards and 63 passing yards while completing 68.4 percent of his passes. Fields was also a threat on the ground as he compiled 867 rushing yards in his two seasons with Ohio State to go along with 15 rushing touchdowns.
Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields had a similar season in comparison to Jacksonville Jaguars’ quarterback Trevor Lawrence.
Dating back to high school, Fields and Lawrence’s journeys have always been mentioned in the same breath. The two have always been considered the top two quarterback prospects as they progressed through high school and college. With both now in the NFL, eyes will be on both Fields and Lawrence in order to determine who is the better quarterback once and for all. Lets take a look at how both Fields and Lawrence fared during their rookie seasons.
