Commit to Justin Fields

The Chicago Bears must show they are committed to Justin Fields.

It may seem silly to say but if new Chicago Bears general manager Ryan Poles and new Chicago Bears head coach Matt Eberflus show that they are committed to Justin Fields as the potential franchise quarterback of the team, that will be an instant improvement from how former general manager Ryan Pace and former head coach Matt Nagy handled Fields.

The Bears development of Fields during his rookie season was doomed from the start. The excitement over the Bears drafting Fields was immediately ceased when Nagy opened training camp by confirming that Andy Dalton would be the Bears’ starting quarterback and that Fields would not have an opportunity to win the job during the pre-season. Furthermore, Fields was not even afforded the opportunity to work with the first team during training camp and pre-season games.

Once the regular season began, the Bears continued to fail with their development of Fields as Nagy had the rookie quarterback taking scout team reps during practice instead of reps with the first or second teams. It is no wonder why Field’s production, once named the starter, was plagued with inconsistency despite the flashes of greatness.

Fields is the quarterback of the Chicago Bears and has the potential to be the franchise quarterback of the organization. Instead of shying away from that possibility, the Chicago Bears must embrace that fact this off-season.
