Offensive Skill Positions

The Chicago Bears must surround Justin Fields with talent at the skill positions.

When Justin Fields officially took over as the Chicago Bears starting quarterback during the regular season, there was no question that he added a new dynamic to the team’s offense. The strong-armed Fields provided the Bears with the ability to make plays down field as well as with his feet given the speed that he possesses at the quarterback position.

The issue, however, is that the Bears lacked talent at the offensive skill positions that can cater to the strengths of Fields.

While the Bears certainly have to address the offensive line first to avoid a collapse like the Cincinnati Bengals had in the Super Bowl on Sunday night, they shouldn’t turn a complete blind eye to what the Bengals did to help quarterback Joe Burrow.

With the fifth overall selection in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Bengals selected wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase. Chase was a college teammate of Burrow at LSU and the two proved to be a threat the NFL level. Chase finished his rookie season with a total of 1,455 receiving yards and 13 receiving touchdowns. The pairing with Chase is exactly what Burrow needed in order to reach the next level of success as a quarterback in the NFL.

The Bears must find that pairing for Fields. The goal of the 2022 season is to make sure that Fields reaches his next level development. In order for that goal to be accomplished, the Bears must improve the offensive skill positions.
