Nick Madrigal

After beginning his Major League Baseball career with the Chicago White Sox, Nick Madrigal now looks to breakout with the Chicago Cubs.

The 2021 season was meant to be the season that Nick Madrigal fully established himself as the starting second baseman for the Chicago White Sox. Madrigal appeared to be headed in that direction as he began the season with a .305/.349/.425/.774 clip to go along with 16 extra base hits through 54 games. Madrigal’s season came to an abrupt end after tearing his right hamstring last June.

Madrigal’s injury forced the White Sox to re-consider their future plans at the second base position and that was apparent with the moves that they made at the trade deadline. At the deadline, the first move that the White Sox made was acquiring Cesar Hernandez from the Cleveland Indians. At the time, the White Sox were under the impression that Hernandez would be their second baseman at least through the 2022 season and that was reason why they were willing to include Madrigal in a trade with the Chicago Cubs for closer Craig Kimbrel.

All reports suggest that Madrigal will be healthy in time for the start of the 2022 season and is set to play his first full season at the Major League level. Madrigal is currently slated to be the Cubs’ starting second baseman and provides the team with something they haven’t had in some time, a contact hitter that puts the ball in play and rarely strikes out.
