Predicting the next Chicago Bears Super Bowl MVP
Roquan Smith
Chicago Bears linebacker Roquan Smith is the closest player that the team has on their roster to Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald.
Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald took over the second half of the Super Bowl against the Cincinnati Bengals. Donald had two sacks in the game but his importance was proven during the final Bengals’ offensive series in the fourth quarter as he single-handedly disrupted their play call on both third and fourth down. It was Donald’s sack on Bengals’ quarterback Joe Burrow on fourth down that secured the victory for the Rams.
The Bears currently have three defensive players on their roster that have the ability to take over games that way that Donald did for the Rams on Sunday, Those three players are defensive end Robert Quinn, defensive end Khalil Mack, and linebacker Roquan Smith. Given their age in comparison to where the Bears are in regards to contending, it seems unlikely that Mack and Quinn are going to be a part of the next Super Bowl contending team for the Bears. Smith, however, has the potential to be the anchor of the Bears defense for years to come.
Despite being snubbed continuously for Pro-Bowl and All-Pro honors, Smith has become one of the most dominant linebackers in the NFL over the course of his first four seasons in the NFL. Smith has 524 combined tackles in his first four seasons to go along with 17 quarterback hits. In 2021 alone, Smith had 164 total tackles. There is no question that Smith has the skillset to disrupt offensive game plans and could very will be the next Super Bowl MVP for the Chicago Bears.
