David Montgomery

Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery has proven in the past that he can take over games.

Chicago Bears running back David Montgomery has proven to be one of the biggest steals of the 2019 NFL Draft. Montgomery has selected by the Bears in the third round and since then, has become one of the best running backs in the NFL.

In his first three seasons, Montgomery has compiled 2,808 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns. Montgomery has gradually become a better receiver out of the backfield and currently has 904 receiving yards and 3 receiving touchdowns for his career. What is most impressive about Montgomery’s first three seasons in the NFL is that he had this success under former head coach Matt Nagy. Nagy flat-out ignored the run game at times during his four-year run as the team’s head coach and that was a baffling decision considering that Montgomery was often the best offensive player that the Bears had on the field.

In the rare games that Nagy was willing to commit to the run game, Montgomery has proven that he has the ability to take control. That is the type of player that can lead a team to a Super Bowl victory. The issue, though, becomes durability as the shelf life of a running back in the NFL is not entirely long. Meaning, it may be a short window if Montgomery is going to be the next Chicago Bears’ Super Bowl MVP.
