Justin Fields

The Chicago Bears may look for Justin Fields to emerge in a similar fashion that Joe Burrow did with the Cincinnati Bengals.

When the Chicago Bears drafted quarterback Justin Fields in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, the belief was that the team found their franchise quarterback. While the Bears had a similar thought when they drafted Mitchell Trubisky in the first round of the 2017 NFL Draft, the feeling with Fields was different being that the quarterback had success in college.

Fields’ rookie season was nothing if not inconsistent as the quarterback passed for 1,870 yards and 7 touchdowns with a completion percentage of 58.9%. Fields, as with most rookies, did struggle with turnovers as he had 10 interceptions and 12 fumbles (8 fumbles lost). Fields did show encouraging signs, however, as in his games against the Detroit Lions, Pittsburgh Steelers, and San Francisco 49ers; the quarterback made several elite throws. Not to mention, Fields also proved to be an effective runner as he had 420 rushing yards and 2 rushing touchdowns last season.

Fields is now entering his second season with the Bears and has a fresh start with the team. Matt Nagy is no longer the team’s head coach and that will prove to be a kickstart to Fields’ development. The Bears will be featuring a quarterback-centric offense under new offensive coordinator Luke Getsy and that should allow Fields to blossom into the dynamic quarterback that he was with Ohio State when he was in college.
