The Chicago Blackhawks have a very good goaltender in Marc-Andre Fleury. He has given them a chance to win so many games that they didn’t deserve to win. It is amazing to watch him play in Chicago but they are probably going to trade him at the deadline.

Fleury has never missed the postseason in his NHL career that will end with him in the Hockey Hall of Fame. The Hawks will almost certainly, as mentioned before, trade him at the deadline to a team that needs a goalie for their postseason run.

So what does that mean for the Hawks’ goalie situation in the future? They are hoping that Drew Commesso can take over that spot. They drafted him in the second round of the 2020 NHL Draft with the 46th overall pick.

Commesso attends Boston University and is now in his second season with them. He was very good in his first season but has gotten even better this year. He is proving that he could be a very good NHL goalie in the not-so-distant future.

The Chicago Blackhawks have a great Olympic goalie in Drew Commesso.

When NHL players were no longer allowed to go to the Olympics, there was wonder who would go in their place. Well, one of the goalies selected for the Team USA roster was Commesso which is amazing. He was Team USA’s World Junior Championship goalie but that tournament was canceled due to COVID-19 outbreaks.

He is getting his chance once again on the world stage but this time as an Olympian. His fist start in such a role came on Thursday against host country China. Team China came out firing and did a good job keeping Team USA on their heels. If it weren’t for Commesso, things would have gotten worse for the Americans quickly.

Commesso held his ground, however, and ended up with a 29 save shutout and Team USA’s first win of the tournament by a final score of 8-0. It was an impressive Olympic debut for the young Blackhawks prospect. It is going to be interesting to see how things go for him as the tournament goes along.

Team USA has another game on Friday against Team Canada. That is always an outstanding rivalry, even if it is a non-medal game. Commesso starting the game is unlikely on a back to back but he is sure to see a lot more action as this tournament goes along. So far, so good for the Blackhawks’ top goalie prospect.
