The Blackhawks could want good players more than picks for Alex DeBrincat.

As mentioned twice before already, a first is coming back for Alex DeBrincat. That much should be obvious at this point, especially if the trade were to happen this season. At 6.4 million for the rest of this season and all of next season, he is a complete steal. That makes him more valuable than he already is on the trade market.

Outside of the first-round pick, the Blackhawks might want players instead of more picks. Dylan Holloway was taken by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round of the 2020 NHL Draft. He played two years of college hockey not too far away at the University of Wisconsin. A lot of mocks had Chicago taking him but the Oilers got him in the end.

He has played in seven games for the Bakersfield Condors this season where he has one goal and four assists for five points. That is not bad for a forward playing in the AHL at 20 years old. One day, he is going to be a great NHL player and the Hawks would be lucky to have him.

As for Ryan McLeod, he is a depth player that can play wing or center on any line. He has played with some of Edmonton’s top players and he has played low in the lineup. If he came to the Hawks, he would probably bring more of the same. The cool thing about McLeod as a depth player is that he can be really good defensively and we all know Chicago needs that right now.

Trading DeBrincat would be a hard move for the Chicago Blackhawks. They landed him in a draft where he should have been selected much higher. However, they are going backward and won’t be good again during DeBrincat’s prime.

Getting as much as they can for him now is smarter than signing him to a nine million a year deal when they aren’t going to be a good team around him. It is much better for this team to have the future in mind. It would also be smart for Edmonton to finally give McDavid a good addition on his wing.
