The Bears need to start thinking about the future at safety. Whether or not they hit on a starter, here, they need to take a shot. Sterling Weatherford would be a heck of a pick at this point in the draft, as he could immediately become a special teams stud.

Weatherford possesses immense size at 6-foot-4, 215 pounds. He has a ton of power that shines when he hits. Right away, it might take him a year or two until he deserves a shot to start. But, the potential is certainly there for Weatherford to be a starting strong safety at the next level.

What’s nice about his game is that Weatherford projects best in a zone scheme, which the Bears will be playing a lot more of under Matt Eberflus. The Bears will be rolling out Eddie Jackson once again, unless they trade him. Next to Jackson remains a mystery, as it has for a few years now.

At the very least, Weatherford could come in and compete right away unless the Bears sign a surefire starter in free agency.

Weatherford’s best season with Miami came in 2019 when he finished with 98 tackles, including 5.5 for a loss, 10 passes defensed, two picks and two forced fumbles.
