Chicago Bears GM Ryan Poles could pursue defensive tackle Jarran Reed in free agency

The Bears’ defensive line was maybe their number one strength across the entire team last year. Their ability to get pressure on the quarterback, regardless of which players were applying it, was almost second to none.

Poles may actually have his work cut out, here, this offseason. The team could choose to cut ties with starting nose tackle Eddie Goldman in order to save $6 million. The future of Mario Edwards may also be in question, as he’s had some character issues arise.

Lastly, Akiem Hicks’ contract is up and he seems to already believe he’ll be gone.

One guy connected to Poles, whom he could bring in, is defensive tackle Jarran Reed. The former second-round pick of the Seattle Seahawks back in 2016 is 29 years old and has been relatively reliable over his career. The past two seasons, he’s started and played in every single game.

Reed is a physical player who can line up in a variety of spots and even get pressure at the defensive tackle position. Over the past two seasons, the veteran defensive tackle has compiled 9.0 sacks and 26 quarterback hits in total.

Reed’s age may make it tough for him to ink a larger contract, and if he’s satisfied with a two or three-year deal, he’d be a nice signing for Poles.
