3 Colts free agents that the Chicago Bears should target
Taylor Stallworth
With the Chicago Bears’ pending change to a Tampa-2 base defense, the team should target defensive tackle Taylor Stallworth.
The strongest position group of the Chicago Bears’ defensive unit during the 2022 season was their defensive line. While Robert Quinn deservedly received most of the praise for the success of the Bears’ defensive line, defensive tackle Bilal Nichols silently had an impressive season as well. Nichols compiled 3 sacks, 51 tackles, and 9 quarterback hits while starting in 15 of the Bears’ 17 games last season.
While Nichols impressed along the defensive line last season, Eddie Goldman was a disappointment. After opting out of the 2020 season, Goldman was limited to 14 games last season. Of those 14 games, Goldman only started in 10 of those games. In those 14 games, Goldman was inconsistent as he only tallied 0.5 sacks, 22 total tackles, and 1 quarterback hit.
While Goldman is under contract for two more seasons, the Bears should look to add quality depth at the defensive tackle position this off-season. If that is the case, then the target for the Bears should be Indianapolis Colts’ defensive end Taylor Stallworth. Stallworth proved to be a quality depth player for the Colts along the defensive line last season as he totaled 3 sacks, 16 tackles, and 12 quarterback hits last season. Stallworth will only be 27 when the 2022 season and may provide better depth for the Bears than Goldman at the defensive tackle position.
