Al-Quadin Muhammad

With Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn approaching the backend of their respective careersit , Al-Quadin Muhammad would be an ideal target for the Chicago Bears.

If the Chicago Bears are indeed preparing to switch from a 3-4 base defense to a Tampa-2 base defense under new head coach Matt Eberflus, there is no question that both Khalil Mack and Robert Quinn will be able to make the transition. Mack was an all-pro defensive end during his time with the Oakland Raiders and Quinn has stated previously that he prefers to have his hand on the ground on defense while operating as a 4-3 defensive end.

While there is no question that Mack and Quinn will succeed in a potential conversion to a Tampa-2 base defense, the question becomes the longevity of their respective careers. The 2022 season will mark Mack’s age-31 season and the former defensive player of the year is coming off a season in which he only played in 7 games. Meanwhile, 2022 will be Quinn’s age-32 season and it would seem unlikely that he will repeat his 2021 performance that saw him break the Bears single season sack record with 18.5 sacks.

If not next season, the Bears will soon need to prepare for life after both Quinn and Mack. For their preparation, the Indianapolis Colts have the perfect pending free agent for the team to target. Colts defensive end Al-Quadin Muhammad will be a free agent in March and will only be 27 when the 2022 season starts. Muhammad was impressive for the Colts last season on the other end of DeForest Buckner as he compiled 6 sacks, 48 tackles, and 13 quarterback hits.
