3. Jerod Mayo

The Chicago Bears could really use someone like Jerod Mayo to come in and help.

Jerod Mayo was a former linebacker in the National Football League. As a player, he went to the Pro Bowl twice and was a Super Bowl Champion with the New England Patriots. It was a great 8-year career for him as a player but he has since moved into the coaching world.

He has been New England’s inside linebacker coach for three seasons now and has done a really nice job. As both a player and coach, he knows what it feels like to be around elite players that became champions. He might be able to translate that experience into being a great NFL head coach one day. If he continues to rise as a positional coach, it could very well be in his future.

The Chicago Bears would be smart to at least give him an interview and consider it. It might seem early because he hasn’t even been a coordinator yet but it is something to consider because of how good he has been in his current role.

It also came on a staff (and he played as a player) with the greatest coach in the history of the NFL. A resume like that could go a long way in helping a team take their game to the next level. The Chicago Bears could really use someone like that. Taking a risk on one of these “under the radar” candidates would be a great idea.
