Dominik Kubalik is a good trade piece for the Chicago Blackhawks to improve.

When the Chicago Blackhawks acquired Dominik Kubalik, nobody thought that he would be as good as he was. In his rookie season of 2019-20, he scored 30 goals which is something that not most rookies do. He came in third place for the NHL’s Calder Trophy which was amazing for him at 24 years old. He was a late bloomer that just needed a chance.

The Blackhawks gave him that chance as the Los Angeles Kings gave him away for a fifth-round pick. He followed up that great rookie season with a 17 goal campaign in the COVID shortened 2020-21 season in which they only played 56 games. He looked to be like a great piece of the team’s future from there.

Unfortunately, he hasn’t been great in 2021-22 at all. In 32 games so far this season, he has six goals and six assists for 12 points. It is far below the total that we are used to seeing from Kubalik and it may or may not get better from there in Chicago.

Boston is a much easier place to be a forward right now because they have a structure that can help any skilled player succeed. If he were traded for Jake DeBrusk, who has basically had the same career trajectory, they each might thrive in new homes. It is worth a shot.
