Trading Patrick Kane for Bowen Byram would make up for a horrid draft decision.

The Chicago Blackhawks made a terrible mistake in the 2019 NHL Draft. Kirby Dach is by no means a bad player but he won’t have the NHL career that Bowen Byram is going to have. The Colorado Avalanche took him one selection after the Hawks took Dach and that was a great decision. Letting him get away was a terrible idea by Stan Bowman and his staff.

A chance to get Byram in Chicago should be something to consider if the Avalanche were willing. Trading Patrick Kane for Byram would be tough for the Avalanche but they would probably ultimately do it. Byram will be more effective for longer at this point in the careers of each player but he might not reach his true potential before MacKinnon needs a pay raise.

If the Avalanche brought in Kane right now, they would have a legit chance to win the Stanley Cup this year and next year. They would have to make some salary cap adjustments if they just traded Byram for Kane but some supplemental moves could be made at the trade deadline if it came true. Each team would be getting what they need if they made a trade like this.
