The Chicago Blackhawks are in an interesting spot. They believed that they were a playoff team going into the season but a terrible start buried them in the standings. It is going to take a lot to come out of it but that shouldn’t be the goal if we are being honest with ourselves.

The goal should be to develop the young players so that the future is much brighter than the present. One of those players is Lukas Reichel. Chicago drafted him in the first round (17th overall) in the 2020 NHL Draft. He is a very good winger from Germany that has a lot of upsides.

He played in the German leagues during his draft years before making his way to the Rockford Ice Hogs of the AHL in 2021. In 18 games for them this year, he has 8 goals and 6 assists for 14 points. That is some great production for the young winger making his AHL season debut.

It is not an easy league to score in and Reichel has done a fair amount of it at 19 years old. The Blackhawks may or may not call him up at some point as he has earned the chance. He is certainly better than at least half of the forwards in Chicago’s current lineup so he just might get the chance.

Lukas Reichel would be a great call-up for the Chicago Blackhawks right now.

Getting a chance to share a locker room with guys like Marc-Andre Fleury, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Kane would be very good for him. Those guys are going to the Hall of Fame so they have plenty to offer a highly skilled teenager trying to find his way in the game.

He would also benefit from a hockey perspective as well. You would think that he sees some power-play time with great players and he could even get a chance in the top-six. With how up and down the season has been so far for the Blackhawks, this kid could provide a major boost.

You can probably expect to see Reichel make his NHL debut at some point this season. We don’t know when that will be but it will surely be exciting when it does happen. They have a lot of faith that he will join them and take off from there.

With youngsters like Kirby Dach and Alex DeBrincat trying to take over the team, Reichel fits right in. Toews and Kane won’t be there forever and they need to start thinking about life after them. Reichel is a part of that as of right now so getting him in there as soon as possible might be a good idea.
