The Chicago Bears could turn to a different Nagy in front office

Somewhat controversial and other problems

He does come with some controversy. He has only had five black quarterbacks invited to the Senior Bowl before this year’s game and that caused an issue.

On the other hand, Jim Nagy is starting an HBCU (Historically Black College and Universities) combine to showcase the talent that is normally overlooked.

The other problem is Jim Nagy has never been in complete control of an NFL front office. It is one thing to be in charge of a scouting staff to bring in talent for some practices and a game. It is another task to be the one responsible to make draft picks, signing free agents, managing a salary cap, negotiating trades, and running an entire franchise.

Also, there is the potential curse of Belichick. Usually, former Belichick disciples who go out on their own do not fare well. Pioli was a genius in New England and then was not so brilliant in Kansas City. Then again, Jim Nagy is diversified enough with his Seattle experience to probably overcome the Belichick hex.

Plus, this guy knows practically everyone in football at all levels, so that little thing of never running a team gets mitigated by all of his connections and knowledge.

Would he come to the Chicago Bears?

It will probably take a lot to get him out of his current role. Jim Nagy is a Mobile, Alabama native and seems happy in his role staged in his hometown.

He gets to scout talent for the entire NFL and does not have to answer to a fan base. Plus, he has a job where he can implement a vision for his beloved event and be greeted with praise.

The Chicago Bears would have to fork over a lot of money and a lot of power. It would probably take a president of football operations title and full control of all things football. Jim Nagy does have the credibility, connections, four Super Bowl rings, and experience to be given all that.

It would be worth Bears chairman George McCaskey’s time to at least make an offer. If Jim Nagy says no, he can maybe point George in the right direction for bringing in the best football people.

Direction is something this franchise needs.
