The Chicago Blackhawks need more from Patrick Kane

The Chicago Blackhawks are 10-15-2 right now. They had a horrific start to the season but have somewhat started to play well since firing Jeremy Colliton and hiring Derek King. Their 22 points have them in a double-digit deficit in the Western Conference standings. The 2021-22 season is pretty much lost.

If they do want to get back in the race, however, they need to start winning at an almost perfect clip. That is impossible which is why the season looks so bleak at this point. With that said, nothing is impossible. In order for that to happen, they need more from Patrick Kane.

Kane is the greatest player in the history of the franchise. He is also having a good season so far. However, he isn’t having a typical Patrick Kane season which is what the Hawks need from him in order to win lots of games. He is the heart and soul of this team so they need him to pick up some slack.

So far in 2021-22, he has 7 goals and 15 assists for 22 points. He is one point behind Seth Jones for the team lead. There is a good chance that Kane overtakes Jones and leads the team in scoring once again. As mentioned before, they need to see him be one of the most productive forwards in the whole league in order to have a chance.

Patrick Kane has shown that he can be an elite scorer for the Chicago Blackhawks.

Nobody is going to have the point totals of players like Leon Draisaitl or Connor McDavid at this point but Kane is used to being in the top six or seven for points. Right now, he isn’t even in the top-20 for NHL scoring. If he could get red-hot and get back in that discussion, the Hawks will start to win more games.

It is hard to say you need more from Kane when he is on track to become the greatest American-born player of all time if he isn’t already (along with his status in the Blackhawks organization). They do though because they aren’t that good of a team. Jones, Kane, and Alex DeBrincat carry a huge load in terms of offense.

DeBrincat is the only player that currently has double-digit goals. If Kane were able to score more, his assists will continue to climb and he will get back into that elite point range. We all know he can shoot almost as well as he can pass so it is something to think about in terms of his production. We are used to seeing him have more than seven goals by November 15th.

Kane and the Hawks have a huge matchup tonight against the Washington Capitals. With Alexander Ovechkin chasing Wayne Gretzky on the other side, you might see the Hawks have an extra pep in their step. Expect Kane to get it going in this one with at least a goal.
