The Chicago Blackhawks have been a major disappointment so far in 2021-22. Luckily, one of the team’s bright spots has been Marc-Andre Fleury who they acquired during the summer ahead of this season. He won the Vezina Trophy as the league’s top goalie last year and will go to the Hall of Fame as one of the greatest to ever do it.

The Hawks played in Montreal on Thursday night and needed to win as bad as they ever have before. The Canadiens are bad and if the Hawks can’t beat them, they won’t beat many others. Jonathan Toews scored his first of the season to lead Chicago to victory but that is only the second-biggest story from the game because of Fleury.

It was the 500th win in the career of Marc-Andre Fleury in the 2-0 shutout victory. He is only the third goaltender in NHL history to reach that milestone as only Martin Brodeur and Patrick Roy are ahead of him in total wins. Passing Roy’s total of 551 might be possible for Fleury depending on his status beyond this year but Brodeur’s 691 is definitely out of reach.

Seeing Fleury do this in a Chicago Blackhawks sweater is incredible for a lot of reasons. It is always nice to see elite players reach impressive milestones like this while representing our great city. It was also cool to see him do this in the town that Martin Brodeur grew up loving and the team Patrick Roy played for in a lot of his wins.

This is a big deal across the National Hockey League. As mentioned before, he is only the third to ever do it so people are going to give him praise. He certainly received it across the league from teammates and beyond.

Marc-Andre Fleury is one of the greatest goalies in the history of the sport.

By the time it is all said and done (if it isn’t that time already), Patrick Kane will be considered the greatest Chicago Blackhawks player ever. Seeing him play with Fleury and congratulate him publicly on Twitter is special for fans of hockey. Greatness recognizes greatness on and off the ice.

Even Martin Brodeur took time out of his night to congratulate his former Team Canada teammate. Now, this is something that is so special for this game as Brodeur is the greatest goalie who ever lived and he is aware enough to show love to another great in Fleury.

Even the Montreal Canadiens fans in attendance knew what was going on. Their team was losing (in a very tough season so far) and they were still classy enough to chant his name as the clock hit 0 on his 500th career victory. It was an all-around great moment for both franchises and the National Hockey League in general.

Fleury is one of the great players and men that we have ever had in this game. He has never missed the playoffs and we can only hope that streak continues this year. If the Chicago Blackhawks are too far out of it by the deadline, it might be wise to grant him that but it was so cool to see him do this with the Hawks.
