Marquise Goodwin has to finish the season strong for the Chicago Bears

For the most part, 2021 has been a nice comeback season for Marquise Goodwin, who hadn’t played a lot of football over the past couple of years. He has developed a great relationship with Justin Fields and could play his way into a second contract in Chicago.

Sticking with the theme at receiver, the Bears could have some continuity here if they re-signed Goodwin. There is a lot of weight to chemistry and relationships that have been built between a quarterback and his receivers — especially for a young quarterback like Fields.

Getting Goodwin on the field and using him more down the stretch could help him stick around after signing a 1-year deal with the Bears. Giving Fields two guys who he knows well next season as maybe his first and third read, like Mooney and Goodwin, could be big for his development.

As the season has worn on, Goodwin has seen more targets from Fields. He went three of four games, recently, getting a minimum of four targets. In an offense that doesn’t pass as much as others around the league, that’s a decent amount of targets for a third receiver.

Hopefully, Fields gets healthy and is able to play quite a bit more with Goodwin, allowing the veteran wideout a chance to prove his case that the Bears should keep him around.
