The Chicago Blackhawks had a terrible start to the season. Things have been a little bit better lately but that doesn’t erase the fact that they have a 6-11-2 record and sit closer to the bottom of the Western Conference than they do a playoff spot. Things have not been good but there are a few players to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

Of course, you have the usual suspects. Jonathan Toews and Patrick Kane each have helped bring so much success to the team over the past few years and will always be considered legends in town. Then there are good players like Alex DeBrincat, Connor Murphy, and Kirby Dach amongst others to be thankful for as well.

However, for Thanksgiving 2021, there are some new players to be extra thankful for. The team made a lot of improvements during the summer. None of them have worked in terms of the standings yet because they are in second to last place of the division but two of them could help turn things around.

Marc-Andre Fleury

The first one is Marc-Andre Fleury. He has been excellent in goal so far. He was off to a horrid start before the coaching change but he has been amazing lately. He is coming off winning the Vezina Trophy in 2020-21 and looking to get back in that conversation this year.

Right now, Fleury sits with a 3.06 goals-against average and a .912 save percentage. That is the type of goaltending that the Hawks need to win some games. His numbers continue to climb with each game and they are lucky to have him.

Seth Jones

The second one is Seth Jones. He was acquired via trade during the summer as well and has stepped into that number one role with ease. He is the best defenseman on the team and probably will remain that for most of his contract.

As long as Jones playing well, the team will have a chance to win. He has two goals and 13 assists for 15 points in 19 games so far this season. If he figures out a way to play defense well on a consistent basis, he will go back to being known as one of the best defensemen in the NHL.

The Chicago Blackhawks have some new players to be thankful for in 2021.

Both of these new Blackhawks believe that they could be a part of the Olympic Games. Seth Jones is already on the Team USA roster and Marc-Andre Fleury is hoping to make it for Team Canada. If that happens, that means he played very well for the Blackhawks which will help them win games. It is no guarantee that this team salvages the season but if they do, these two will be at the front of it.
