Chicago Bears: This is the perfect coach to replace Matt Nagy in 2022
The Chicago Bears are reportedly going to fire Matt Nagy after their game against the Detroit Lions on Thursday. They probably won’t hire the full-time coach after that but the fact that Nagy will be gone makes them a much better team. Things have not worked out well lately and it is time to move on.
When a full-time coach search begins, they need to change the way that they evaluate their candidates. They need to stop looking for someone who specializes in specific areas and look for someone who is simply a good head football coach.
One person that is a great candidate is Ryan Day. He is currently serving as the head coach at Ohio State University and has been since the 2019 season. He has had nothing but success there as his record as a head coach stands at 33-3. He also has won the Big Ten East Division three times and has hopes of winning his third Big Ten Conference title in as many years.
In his first year at Ohio State, he won the Big Ten Coach of the Year Award as well so you know he has been doing a great job there. He has one College Football Playoff win as well which led to the Buckeyes playing in the 2021 National Championship where they lost to Alabama.
Ryan Day would be a great addition to the Chicago Bears coaching staff.
The Buckeyes are getting ready for a huge battle with Michigan this weekend and have a legit chance of being in the playoffs once again. Ryan Day has taken the team that was handed to him and kept the success going. He isn’t thinking about this right now as his mind is on this 2021 college season but he would be a great hire for the Chicago Bears.
Outside of being a very smart football man, he also has a great connection with Justin Fields. Fields was the quarterback at Ohio State where they had so much success before the Bears drafted him to the NFL. Day might be able to help Fields unlock what he needs to be a successful superstar in the NFL.
This may not be what the Bears end up doing because George McCaskey and Ted Phillips are bad at their jobs but it would be the perfect addition. A coach that has a history with the quarterback they are trying to develop is the big key but he also clearly knows how to run a football team. It doesn’t translate to the NFL for everyone but it just might for Day.
