The Chicago Cubs are going to continue making small little moves until that big one eventually comes (if it ever comes). One was made on Monday when they acquired Harold Ramirez from the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations. This is a move that moves gets the Cubs’ 40 man roster up to 38.

Ramirez had a pretty good year with Cleveland in 2021. He isn’t a star player or anything but he can certainly have an impact on a retooling Cubs team in 2022 and beyond. In his career so far, Ramirez had a .271 average with a .714 OPS over the span of 221 games.

That isn’t the biggest sample size in the world but he is certainly looking like a late bloomer in terms of making an impact in the MLB. He certainly adds some more depth to the outfield for the Cubs going forward. It will be interesting to see if he is someone who will play a fair amount of games for the next year and possibly beyond.

For the rest of the offseason, as mentioned before, don’t be surprised if smaller moves like this are made. Adding a bunch of these depth pieces could really help the Cubs grow their franchise. If 2022 is a rebuilding year as it is shaping up to be, guys like this could be great placeholders on the MLB club.

Harold Ramirez could be a great addition to the Chicago Cubs for the 2022 season.

As the organization turns its attention toward the future, someone like Ramirez can really help. After parts of three seasons in the MLB (two with the Miami Marlins and one with Cleveland), he has shown some good stuff. He is also under control for a few years so the Cubs can see what they have in him.

As for Cleveland, nobody really knows what they are doing long-term. They have become a pitching factory as they are always pumping out great pitchers but the offense has just been okay for the past few seasons.

They were really inconsistent in 2021 which is why they came in second place of the AL Central and weren’t even close to the first-place Chicago White Sox at any point in the second half of the season.

Kind of like the Cubs, they haven’t really been in true contention since the year after winning the pennant in 2016. Regardless, the hope is that the Cubs can do what is necessary to compete while retooling, and adding someone like Harold Ramirez will certainly help.
