The Chicago Bears lost more than just the football game on Sunday. They played a very bad game in every way and the coaching staff is taking a lot of heat for it. However, the game is by far the second most important thing they lost.

Justin Fields left the game because of a rib injury and did not return. That is about as bad of news as the Bears could receive at any point. Developing him is the most important thing that they can do right now as an organization.

Fields was replaced by Andy Dalton when he went down. We know who is better of the two but it was smart to let Dalton finish the game. The coach and his staff are pathetic so having Fields in there doesn’t help anyway.

Of course, when we have a situation like this, the first thing we want to hear is that he is okay. Well, it sounds like he is going to be fine. Adam Schefter of ESPN reported that Fields doesn’t have any bones broken based on initial tests. He is going to undergo further tests on Monday.

The Chicago Bears need Justin Fields healthy and on the field in every game.

The Bears have been dealing with a lot of injuries so escaping this one with good news would be a sight for sore eyes. Not having any broken bones based on the initial tests should be considered good news as we can now hope that further testing won’t go south.

The Bears are on short rest this week as they have a Thanksgiving battle on Thursday. They are supposed to play the Detroit Lions at Ford Field and it would be nice to see Fields play in that big game. They aren’t going to the playoffs but Fields getting those opportunities are things we need to see.

Chicago needs to give Fields the best chance to succeed. They haven’t really done that all year because Matt Nagy is a bad coach. If they are missing him for any amount of time, it is going to continue getting uglier as the year goes along. They are already 3-7 which is just awful.

Prior to his departure from the field, he went 4/11 with 79 passing yards. He didn’t throw a touchdown or an interception. He also had some rushing yards which is one of his great tools. He had four total rushes for 23 yards. It would be nice to see him back under center on Thursday and Schefter’s report is a good start.
